14 word stories - Pete

Finding her

Denial. Not looking, I found her. Not wanting, I needed her. Zing wins. Again.

Growing close

Anger. Apart, but together. True for him and for me. Love grows, despite this.

Living together

Bargaining. Now together, but apart. Thinking for each other is painful, and ends it.

The aftermath apart

Depression. Hindsight’s kick to the balls; I hurt, and grow, and love her still.

Phoenix flames

Acceptance. Not looking, I find her. Not wanting, I need her. Zing wins. Again.

...

Five 14 word stories about someone I love, despite everything that’s happened to us. The five periods from meeting her until now are spoken to, in Zach’s format. The “Zing” I refer to is my own personal version of the Spidey Sense. It tingles me when great things are about to happen, relationship-wise in my life.

Pete,

Your stories took a far more personal tone than any of the others. I appreciate that choice in that your writing clearly distinguishes itself in content and style. The rest of our stories kind of muddle together and become indistinguishable from one another.

Using the "stages of grief" also provided an excellent unifying theme that the other submissions lacked. In fact, I didn't even think of uniting the five separate stories under one umbrella like you chose to do.

Finally, despite my aversion to poetry, these did resonate with me. They feel like someone looking back and trying to understand who he was and why acted that way.

I completely agree. I loved the way you made each one a progression, working through each phase. For me, one aspect of great writing is that it will make the reader feel something. That feeling can be anything from apathy to rage. Being able to make a reader feel something in 14 words... kudos.

I also agree that the unifying theme makes them very interesting to look at as a group. My favorites are the first and last. Almost identical to the word, and yet each one so different in meaning. Great job.
