Short stories for short people

I was so excited about my assignment I blew my load too early.

whoops.

(note: I really friggin' wish we had some kind of 'hide' option :( )

As part of the assignment, I said 5, and I mean five, so I had to cut out/re-write a bunch of them; I have ended up writing some 15 or so little ditties, although the majority of them are much more suited to story openings than full stories.
  1. I thought I was okay. Then something fell off. I guess I was mistaken.
  2. Resting. Movement, corner of the eye. Turn and it's gone. Too late.
  3. "Gimme!" Erin produces a bag of chocolate cookies from her knapsack. Tomorrow, she's fired.
  4. One second to answer. "Why would I ever sleep with your daughter?" Wrong answer.
  5. It was hard saying "no" to her sad blue eyes, so he said "goodbye."
... okay, one bonus one:
  • before it starts. The most tragic kind of story is the one that ends

this one was my favorite, hands down:

"It was hard saying "no" to her sad blue eyes, so he said "goodbye."

It painted the most vivid story, the one with the most depth, for me.

I like the project; a good idea, Zach. In some ways it's like writing poetry, or lyrics. And while anyone can scribble something out, when you put effort into something like this, it shows.

I liked [One second to answer. "Why would I ever sleep with your daughter?" Wrong answer.] the most.

I can imagine the events before and after the 14 words.

Like Pete, I think this was a clever assignment. 14 is an odd number to choose. How did you decide on it?

I chose 14 words by saying a few sentences to myself out loud and writing out how many number of words they were, and then averaging it so that 14 words would be roughly 2 and a half sentences.
