Cupid

So, there was this show in 98-99 called Cupid... Staring the guy who plays Ari from Entourage. It was amazing, from the perspective of its writing. Piven's character claimed to be -the- Cupid, who had been banished to Earth by Zeus without his powers until he made 100 matches. The other main character was his court-appointed psychologist, and every week he worked though making the match and his own issues.

You never found out if he actually -was- Cupid, or just some disturbed but likable guy. It was a set in Chicago, and it was a sweet show.

ABC just renewed the show, in a largely unprecedented move. The character Cupid will be back, in many ways the same show, but in other ways different. Piven won't be back, unfortunately... but much of the show's original flavor and direction will be there.

A hint of where my topic might go... a favorite character, explored somehow. But I'm yapping about all this here because it was such a good show, character-wise and story-wise.

Heh.

Science Fiction in the National Interest

I stumbled upon an interesting article published in a May '07 USA Today that described a group of scifi authors that consults with the Department of Homeland Security.

"We'll play 'What if?' with anything," says Sage Walker, an emergency medicine physician turned sci-fi writer and the only woman in the group. She says the discussions with government officials "tend to be very intense and far-ranging."

Kinda cool.
